Swanage Bowling Club start funding for a device at Beach Gardens

The Swanage Bowling Club have kindly donated £500 to fund a defibrillator and Cabinet at Beach Gardens today. 



Beach Gardens is a target area for the  Swanage Community Defibrillator Partnership as it's halfway between the devices at North Beach and Shore Road.



Collecting the donation following the Bowls Club Presidents Day, Ian Brown thanked all the members and confirmed the partnerships vision of providing a device along with awareness training with the members of the club. 



The Bowling Club committee have been very committed in supporting the partnership from the start of the year and today saw another step forward in providing a device in memory of one of the clubs members

New Defibrillator taken to incident

A call to the Coastguard just after midday , stating a male on a vessel in Swanage was having a heart attack saw one of the new devices taken to the scene.

The vessel made its way to the pier to be met by the emergency services.  A RNLI crewman hearing event on the radio also attended.

The Coastguard team arrived and one of the team obtained the Defibrillator from the Rowing Club close to the pier.

Thankfully on arrival  the male didn't require the device and shortly after a paramedic turned up to take over the medical care. 

The AED was checked and returned to the cabinet ready for service. 

The male was treated by South Western Ambulance. 

Event Defibrillator for use at Events

One of the objectives for the partnership was to provide a device for local groups to use at events in the Swanage Area.

The device is now available to borrow for groups on request.

There is no formal charge however to assist the partnership we do ask for a donation towards the partnership.

Awareness Workshops Start

The first awareness workshops were held last week to allow people to understand what you do in an emergency and how to use an AED.

These pilot workshops worked very well lasting between 45 minutes and an hour.

The partnership hopes to do some more workshops in September with the dates to be announced. 

To allow everyone to have a practise, each workshop is limited to 6 people so we will have to book places.

Our thanks to the Coastguard for the use of the training room to allow the workshops to take place.
